AVLDA among 10 outstanding local governance programs nationwide
ISULAN, Sultan Kudarat – The 2008 search for outstanding local governance programs is over.
And the Allah Valley Landscape Development Alliance (AVLDA) was among the 10 local governance programs to receive a “Gawad Galing Pook Award” for its continued excellent advocacy on environmental management planning.
Focused on the protection and management of the Allah Valley landscape, AVLDA is a multi-sectoral alliance of Local Government Units (LGUs) and Civil Society Organizations of the provinces of South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat as well as the national government agencies in Region 12 who have the “geographical and political jurisdiction” over the Allah Valley Landscape.
In an interwiew with AVLDA’s Project Officer for Sultan Kudarat Roger L. Acosta, he bared that AVLDA was among the other local governance programs nationwide evaluated through a multi-level screening process based on positive results and impact, promotion of people’s participation and empowerment, transferability and sustainability and efficiency of program service delivery.
Of the 138 entries who joined for the nationwide search, Acosta disclosed, the National Selection Committee, on December 2008, has selected only 19 to present their outstanding governance programs. The top ten will be conferred the highest award a local government could ever have and a cash prize of P100, 000.00.
Moreover, no less than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will personally hand-over the Gawad Galing Pook award to AVLDA which will be represented by South Cotabato Governor Daisy Fuentes and Sultan Kudarat Governor Suharto Mangudadatu late this month of January at the Malacañang Palace.
