The Provincial Government of Sultan Kudarat thru the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office conducted a Leadership Building Seminar held September 3-4, 2016 at the King’s Hall, Provincial Capitol Building, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
The said activity was spearheaded by the SKAYO (Sultan Kudarat Association of Youth Organization) and facilitated by the SOCCSKARGEN Youth Network, a group of youth volunteers in Region 12.
A total of 125 youth coming from different organizations in the province namely SKUL KA BA (Sama-samang Kabataan Upang Labanan ang Kasamaan ng Bisyo at Adiksyon), SKMYO (Sultan Kudarat Muslim Youth Organization), Interfaith, I-SAGE (International School for Advance and Genuine Education), representatives from the Indigenous People, and Rotaract Club of Isulan joined the two-day activity which aimed to impart knowledge and skills to youth leaders and potential youth leaders and empower young people with opportunities on contributing to the development works of the community, governments, and private sectors as well as building connection among every youth organizations in the province.
Provincial Human Resource Management Officer Jovy Samson Ph.D and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Henry J. Albano of the lead department for the said seminar were also present to oversee and give support to the youth of the province.
The first day of the seminar focused on presentations of topics about youth, where PSWDO Henry J. Albano discussed the Local Youth Situationer and the salient feature of the SKAYC or Sultan Kudarat Adolescent and Youth Code of the province.
Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu, SKAYO President continued on and introduced the Sultan Kudarat Association of Youth Organization to SOCCSKARGEN Youth Network and youth participants.
Then it was followed by successive workshop conducted by SOCCSKARGEN Youth Network that identified issue on health, education, employment, participation, environment, youth representation, and youth marginalized among others. Presentation of outputs followed right after, where youth identified program, projects, and activities addressing the issues.
The first day of the activity ended with a Solidarity Night where youth group themselves and showcase their talents thru different presentations. The event was also graced by Vice Governor Raden C. Sakaluran Al Haj as keynote speaker on that evening.
The last day of the seminar saw participants engaging on topics and program of the National Youth Commission. One is the SSEAYP or Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program discussed by John Oliver Tablazon, lead facilitator.
The Sangguniang Kabataan Reformed Law was also discussed despite its postponement. The participants also signed a pledge of commitment in support of empowering the youth as partner in nation building.
The activity ended in an open forum where questions raised were answered by the officials and facilitators. There were also discussions on the opportunities and challenges that every youth organizations in the province are facing.
The Leadership Building Seminar is expected to strengthen and capacitate every youth organization in the province in coming up programs, projects and activities which will address issues and concerns and help them achieve and realize the goals and objectives of their organizations and the youth as whole.(JBAujero/PPDO-SK)
